Kinship

In a community partnership with the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) under the Division of Child and Family Well-Being (CFWB), our kinship program works to engage with non-traditional families to ensure the well-being of the child is met. Using primary prevention strategies through the promotion of equity strategies, subsidized early childhood education, and public awareness campaigns, we actively work towards assisting families before they reach the child welfare system.

In collaboration with the CFWB, Bridge Builder’s Kinship Program strives to function as a hub for coordinating services and resources, and advocating for families, in addition to advising city agencies on the implementation of CFWB procedures and policies.

Moreover, our Kinship Program works with Mobilization for Justice formerly known as MFY Legal Services, which offers free legal assistance to low-income New Yorkers throughout New York City to resolve legal problems in the areas of housing, foreclosures, civil, and disability rights, consumer, employment, government benefits, immigration, and kinship care.

BBCP was recently awarded a contract with ACS to provide services and support for families through a Family Enrichment Center (FEC). The FEC is located in CD #4 (12 Clark Place) east of the BBCP storefront, which provides for greater reach into the community for our organization. The FEC model is a primary prevention intervention designed with the goal of preventing child abuse and neglect by providing a neighborhood gathering place for families to come to build social connections, participate in programming, and connect to a robust network of supports that help strengthen protective factors. FECs will partner with families to co-design programming that is responsive to their needs and interests, and will provide support across the essential domains of family and community wellbeing.
